INTRODUCTION:
The bond between animals and human beings is from the beginning of human civilization. But with urbanization, modern civilization animals are losing their basic rights like proper shelter, fodder, food, veterinary care, and even water. On the other side, the prevailing system of indiscriminate destruction of community dogs to control their population and to minimize the incidence of rabies has not succeeded as per expectations. The local authorities have been killing community dogs under the pretext of controlling rabies by public health dept. For control of street dogs, the shift in policy to an alternative and more humane system of sterilization cum immunization of community dogs has been formulated under the S.P.C.A act 1960. Honoring which we animal welfare organisations are serving for control of the population of community dogs by sterilization and reduces the incidence of rabies by immunization.
The Animal Welfare Society, Hyderabad (AWS) is in this activity since 2004 and sterilized and immunized few Lakh dogs in various Municipal Corporations and municipalities including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, BBMP, Solapur Corporation, Vijayawada corporation, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam, Kothagudem, Mancherial, Paddapalli district, Siddipet District, Kamareddy, Tellapur, Medchal District and in few of the Rangareddy districts.
In this context, we extend our support to take up Animal Birth Control cum Anti Rabies Vaccination Program to control the COMMUNITY dog menace and Rabies as well.
Brief About ABC/AR: Animal Birth Control is a method of providing low cost spay, neuter and vaccination services for the community dogs to make the dogs sterile, unfit for reproduction and due to lack of sexual hormones the sterile dogs will become docile and friendly. After the Anti-Rabies Vaccination the dogs become immunized to Rabies disease.
